After a week off last week, we’re back and we’ve got lots to cover! It will never not astound us that new cases crop up week after week over here at the TWITCH. We keep expecting people to wise up and act right but, alas, they do not. This week we will highlight ongoing trials, report on some recent arrests, and touch on some cases that are getting lots of attention in the true crime world. We are glad you are here for it.
Myrtle Beach, SC: We will start off with the case that has captivated our attention since this past weekend— Mica Miller, wife of a pastor, who, according to the recently released report from the NC Medical Examiner, committed suicide April 27th and was found at the Lumber River State Park in NC, 1.5 hours away from her home. Mica’s case went viral this past weekend after several Tik Tokers posted clips of the unusual way her pastor husband announced the news of her death to his congregation. These posts sprouted much speculation, accusations, and, ultimately, investigations into what really happened to the beautiful 30 year old woman. As we write this, more information is emerging and expected to be released. You can bet we will share it here.
Texas County, Oklahoma: A fifth suspect in the deaths of Jillian Kelley and Veronica Butler had his day in court this past week. Paul Grice, the youngest member of the group who conspired to end the lives of the two victims, appeared to hear his charges of first degree murder, kidnapping, and conspiracy. He was denied bond.
Miami, Florida: Ana Knezevic’s ex-husband, David Knezevic, was taken into custody at the Miami International Airport in connection with her disappearance. We hope that his arrest will spur more answers for her family and friends as to where she is and what happened to her.
Dayton, Ohio: Following the tragic shooting death of an Uber driver by an elderly man who thought she was in on a “grandparent scam” that had targeted him, the Department of Justice has charged 16 people in the Dominican Republic and the US associated with that scam. We are HAPPY to hear this news! This case hits close for us as we have family members on whom this kind of scam was attempted. (Thankfully they did not fall for it.) But suffice it to say, these crimes are real, they hurt real people, and those who perpetrate them should be caught and punished. Our hearts also go out to the family of the Uber driver who was an innocent victim of a tragic mistake.
Delphi, Indiana: The trial of Richard Allen, the accused killer of murdered teens Abigail Williams and Liberty German, has been postponed from May 13 to October 14. The trial is now expected to run longer than originally predicted as well.
Corpus Christi, Texas and Nashville, Tennessee: Two young men, Sebastian Rogers and Caleb Harris, who have both been missing for months, are still missing, and their parents continue to appeal to the public for information that will lead them to their sons. If you know anything, or if you think you’ve seen these boys, please contact law enforcement immediately.
Continuing cases we’ve mentioned in the past that are still ongoing this week. (If you are unfamiliar with these cases, please check out the previous Tuesday TWITCH posts): Chad Daybell’s trial (ID) entered its fifth week, Karen Read’s trial (MA) entered its 2nd week of testimony, Stephan Sterns (FL), was officially charged with murder and could face the death penalty, Bryan Kohberger’s (ID) weak (in our opinion) alibi was rejected by the prosecution, and Chad Doerman (OH) waived his right to a speedy trial and is fighting the death penalty in his case.
Melbourne, Australia: Erin Patterson, accused of poisoning several family members using mushrooms in a lunch she prepared, appeared in court today and pled not guilty to the charges. She is also accused of attempted murder of her ex-husband, who was invited, but did not attend the fateful luncheon. This case has been fast-tracked with another court date set for May 23rd. We will let you know what happens.
That’s all we’ve got to share for this week. If you’re still here, thanks for reading. We hope that you’ll invite your true crime loving friends and family to check us out, and we hope you’ll keep coming back to see what has happened each week in the dramatic, always changing world of true crime. This weekly post is a labor of love out of a commitment to justice and we are so glad you are joining us for it.
And for all true crime followers and book lovers, set your calendars for tomorrow’s post on “Why True Crime?” and the cover reveal of
’s new novel that is releasing October 1, 2024.
The Mica Miller 911 call is heartbreaking. Have you heard it yet? I hope there is some way the husband can be held responsible for his terrorism of her. A terrible tragedy.
Thank you for update on Australian story regarding poisoned mushrooms! I was wondering, what happened with that. Such a bizarre case!
