On this day 8 years ago, we lost Pat Conroy—a publishing giant, a man of letters, and a name synonymous with beautiful writing, southern settings. Those who have read his books know that they stay with you forever. More than the writer he was, we are also left with the memories of the person he was. One post simply will not adequately do justice to his memory. And so, for the month of March, we decided to pay tribute to Pat Conroy— and how better than through the woman who knew him best: his wife, Cassandra King Conroy.
This month we’ve chosen as our March pick, Cassandra’s book Tell Me A Story: My Life With Pat Conroy, which came out in 2019 and—like so many other books published during that time—was a Covid casualty. But fate and circumstance was on our side and, after recently discovering it, we wanted to share it with you.
This month we’ll be talking to those who knew Pat best: his wife, his friends, his colleagues. You’ll hear personal stories. Tributes from fans. This is our way of honoring a legend lost too soon. Whether you’re a longtime Conroy fan or you’ve always wanted to pick up one of his books, this is a month for you to come be a part of The Book Tide, as we celebrate a man who knew a lot about the tides, and even more about lifting up others.
