Living in Jacksonville, FL (Duval County), I’ve been following the Bridegan murder closely. Did you know that Shanna Gardner-Fernandez hired Jose Baez as her attorney? Some might remember him as Casey Anthony’s attorney in that infamous trial ten plus years ago. This was such a cold blooded murder! Hope justice is found for the Bridegan family.

You and me both! Let’s hope there’s a better jury on this one than on Casey Anthony’s. It seems like a no-brainer with all the evidence and connections to her. I’d hate to see anyone get away with such a heartless crime. The thought of his little girl sitting in that car not understanding and frightened just breaks me.

Also, from what I’ve read locally, there’s an ongoing custody dispute between the two sets of grandparents of the children of Shanna Gardner and Bridegan. Bridegan’s parents haven’t been able to see the grandchildren since his death. I suppose the children are in the Pacific Northwest with Shanna’s parents. Hope this gets resolved soon. I haven’t seen anything locally as to speculation about the identities of the other two people who might be involved.

I was just talking to my therapist daughter about the Petito/Laundrie case and what would make the Laundrie's lie about murder on their son's behalf ~ it's so baffling and infuriating. I cannot begin to imagine how the Petito's have withstood the entire case.

Is the Shanna Gardner case the one where she moved out to the northwest soon after her husband's murder? These cases are so insane.

There's an arc coming out from Berkely in June, I believe, called Love Letters to a Serial Killer - I, of course, had to read it thinking the whole time about the Shanann Watts and children murders. I heard Chris Watts was receiving love letters from strangers, and I hoped this book would give some insight into the mindset of someone who would/could write love letters to a convicted serial killer. Alas, I probably need to find a non-fiction read for that.

Thank you Mary Beth for compiling these cases for us ~ I always want to know more after the fact ~ like, how do the Laundrie's live with themselves? and Ruby Franke & Jodi Hildebrandt ~ are they still acting self-righteous or do they truly see the damage they caused? and then there's the Stampin Up lady - the twins, oh my gosh - are they ok? . . .I go down way too many rabbit holes with these cases. Thank you for sharing in my wanting to understand things that make no sense.

Thank you for being here Stacy— hoping we can build an entire community of folks like us who are both baffled and intrigued by these cases. Delving into them helps me better understand humans at times, and scratch my head in confusion many other times. I love the chance to discuss with others and don’t have many folks in my real life who want to. So, let’s keep talking!

Yes Shanna Gardner moved back to be near her parents after her ex was killed. She was arrested out there. In some ways it reminds me of the Adelson case, where custody battles led to the father— who only wanted to remain in his kids’ lives— was gunned down in cold blood. Also in Florida actually.

And come to think of it, the Laundries were in FL too! And you’re right about that case being mind boggling. To lie and keep secrets while a family searched in vain for their daughter seems unnecessarily cold hearted.
